Little Guy Goes Abanas

The Story 

You play as an animated snail ride snail from the great Yarmouth snail ride. His name is Joe, and he is a red one, to be specific. You’ve been awakened by radiation leaking from a nearby powerplant. In Little Guy Goes Abanas the eponymous little guy travels to the nuclear power plant to either shut it down and finally die or allow it to continue providing energy to great Yarmouth.

 Gameplay
 Little Guy Goes Abanas is a top-down shooter/puzzle game in which the player must defeat various great Yarmouth residents by firing radioactive goop at them. The map is arranged into a series of interlinked rooms for the player to travel between. In each room there are enemies to defeat, and the player cannot leave the room unless the enemies have been defeated. 

Mechanics

• Goop 
The player has a green goop bar, which can be refilled by picking up goop puddles. The goop is then expended by using the player’s abilities. 

• Abilities
The player has 3 abilities, which they can switch between using the Q and E keys. The first is the shoot ability, which allows the player to shoot a goop ball that damages enemies and breaks down obstacles. The second is the heal ability, which allows the player to use their slime to heal themselves. The last is the melee ability, which allows the player to deal damage at a much shorter range, but doesn’t cost slime, making it useful in a pinch. 

• 2p Machines
The 2p Machines can be found throughout the rooms, and shoot 2p coins in a given direction. The 2p projectiles harm not only the player, but enemies too. They can’t be destroyed by any attack, so the player must dodge them to progress.

 • Power-Ups
Throughout the game’s rooms there are various powerups. There are 3 kinds, that increase your health, slime and damage respectively. They are usually found in optional rooms with lots of enemies guarding them.

• Barrels 
Barrels are found throughout the games’ rooms and can be shot to drop goop puddles which damage enemies and refill the player’s goop bar.

 • Destroyable Walls
Some walls can be shot with the shoot or melee ability to be destroyed. They’re usually found in rooms with puzzles. 

• Crates and Buttons
Crates are found in puzzles and can be pushed around by the player onto buttons. 

Enemies
Mostly, the player will be fighting seagulls that either move randomly and shoot at the player, or dive directly at them for melee attack. There’s also a boss battle with Barry, 63, from Sainsburys’.

Barry, 63 
Barry, 63, is a boss battle in the Sainsbury’s section of the game. He has several modes. To begin with, he moves from right to left shooting cans of beer at the player; then, he will chase the player and throw beers less often; then, he will stay still and shoot beers in very quick succession. Additionally, there are two massive union jacks that move from either side of the boss room inwards, restricting the area in which the player can move. There is also a red cross on the floor of the room, on which a slime puddle regularly spawns, so that the player doesn’t run out too often.

How it links to the theme
Little Guy Goes Abanas is a game about an animal effected by improperly managed nuclear power stations. At the end of the game, the player is given the choice to shut down the power plant for their own self gain, or to allow it to continue to provide cleaner energy to Great Yarmouth. This reflects the decisions of major corporations as to whether they are to sacrifice their individual gain for clean power.
